About Emily

Emily Dalrymple is a writer and content editor from Alexandria, Louisiana. She moved to New Orleans in 2017 and has lived there for the past six years (one year of massive global pandemic excluded). She graduated from the University of New Orleans with an M.A. in English in 2023. While a student at UNO, Emily worked with several publishing organizations, including the University of New Orleans Press and Chin Music Press. In these positions, she explored her interest in independent and self-publishing initiatives, working closely with both teams and tabling community events such as Burn Barrel Press’ 2022 Zinefest.

As an intern at the New Orleans-based digital marketing firm Online Optimism, Emily wrote several content pieces about social media applications, digital advertisements, and bookselling/publishing trends—three of which ranked number one on Google. Her article “SEO Tactics to Drive Traffic to Your Website” for UpCity was added to the ENGL5190 (Professional Writing) syllabus at the University of New Orleans. She continues to use these skills as a social media manager for UNO Press and as a contracted technical writer for Talon Systems, LLC

As a graduate student, Emily’s field of interest lay in the intersection between feminist, queer, and postcolonial theory. Her essay “Radical Softness in the Literary Freaks of Carson McCullers’ The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter” (2023) reflects this scope and explores the relationship between literary freaks and southern resistance movements.

On her off days, Emily can be found at one of New Orleans’ numerous indie bookstores, the music venues Gasa Gasa and Siberia, or admiring Modigliani’s Portrait of a Young Woman at the New Orleans Museum of Art. She hopes to see you around town!
